Explore your creativity with a range of art classes and courses at the New England Regional Art Museum.

NERAM’s 2019 Art Classes will be held in the Packsaddle Studio or in the Museum of Printing during school terms.

Places will fill quickly and space is limited therefore it is suggested that you book in early.

 

Children’s Art Classes

TUESDAYS OR THURSDAYS

Adventures in Art with Del Bernett

For children with a minimum age of 8 years (no upper age limit)

Time: 4:00 – 5:15 pm

Dates:

Tuesday Class – Tuesday 5th February – 2nd April 2019
Thursday Class –  Thursday 7th February – 4th April 2019

9 weeks

Participants  are encouraged to express their creativity in an individual way as they try new possibilities in drawing and painting, printmaking and sculpture. Some exhibition visits are also included – these often provide inspiration for a particular way of working. Del Bernett is a qualified artist and educator who is passionate about helping both adults and children to learn about art, and to enjoy the experience of creating their own works.

Cost:

  • $190 per student (all materials supplied)

ADULT ART CLASSES

WEDNESDAYS

Drawing/Painting/Mixed Media with Kerry Gulliver

The course is open to all skill levels and will allow for personal expression. You are free to develop your own works.

For those who are starting out, bring some materials from the list below, and some reference material, i.e. photos, images of artworks that inspire you, objects you like etc, and Kerry will help get you started.

Throughout the term you will be looking at the basic elements of art, principles of design, genres, techniques, and the importance of drawing.

 

Dates:  Wednesday 30th January 2019 – 3rd April 2019

Time: 10:00am – 3:00pm

Location: NERAM – Packsaddle Studio (rear of Gallery)

Kerry Gulliver is a skilled artist and educator who has exhibited regularly in Armidale, Sydney and Tamworth. She has trained in visual arts, animation, colour theory and graphic design and works regularly with community and other groups to run a range of art courses.

Cost:

Suggested materials for class:  Please bring any reference materials that inspire you.

Paints (acrylic is the most practical, but you may prefer oils), brushes, canvas or paper. Heavier papers are better to paint on, such as 80gsm or higher. Kerry likes the medium or rough textured paper. Cheaper paper is OK for experimentation.

For drawing, Cartridge paper (any size), pencils in a range of hardnesses (but more in the soft range), rubbers, crayons, coloured pencils and any other materials that you like to work with.

THURSDAYS

Printmaking with Lizzie Horne

Discover the joys of printmaking by hand and on our fabulous presses and create something beautiful. Explore linocut, monotype and/or dry point etching. Suitable for beginners and experienced printmakers who would love to print in the Museum of Printing. Lizzie will guide you through your project from planning to printing; come with your ideas and leave with an original print. Suitable for beginners and experienced printmakers who would love to print in the Museum of Printing.

Dates: Thursday 14th February – Thursday 14th March 2019

(5 weeks)

Time: 10am – 1pm

Location: Museum of Printing (Rear of Museum)

Max no. students: 10 students, require min. 5 to run

Cost: $195 or $175 for Friend of NERAM or members of BGP

Lizzie Horne is an experienced printmaker and teacher whose work has been selected for major national exhibitions including Inkmasters in 2018 and 2016. A foundation member of the Black Gully Printmakers, she was the inaugural winner of the Helen Dangar Memorial Art Bursary, which allowed her to further her printmaking studies in Florence. She has just returned brimming with new ideas, skills and enthusiasm.

Equipment:

Basic equipment provided but byo materials, including paper, ink and whatever type of plate you would like to use, plus items like tracing and carbon paper, sharpies and pencils. If you are a beginner it might be a good idea to talk to Lizzie before purchasing materials, or to wait for the first class. Limited range of plates available for purchase from tutor.

 SATURDAYS 

Art for Adults with Del Bernett

A weekly class for adults accommodating all levels of experience of making art. This class offers a variety of drawing, painting and printmaking experiences for adults at all levels, beginner to experienced.  Clear explanations of concepts are given and new techniques are demonstrated. Individual attention in a supportive atmosphere will help students achieve their artistic goals.

Dates: Saturday 9th February – 30th March 2019

8 weeks

Time: 1:30 – 4:30 pm

Location: NERAM – Museum of Printing (rear of gallery)
